GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS
FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT:
HARNESSING ACTION FOR THE 21ST CENTURY
Colloquium March 24, 2002
German House, 871 United Nations Plaza, New York
Organised by Tata Energy
and Resources Institute North America
In Co-operation with the Heinrich
Boell Foundation Washington Office
The Rio+10 process requires powerful voices and intellectual inputs to
ensure that the global community addresses head-on the challenges identified
at Rio in 1992. These leaders and thinkers could assist the Rio+10 process
immeasurably. In recognition of the imperatives for recharging the political
momentum and the enthusiasm of all involved in the Rio+10 process, the
Tata Energy and Resources Institute-North America (TERI-NA) in cooperation
with the Heinrich Boell Foundation, Washington D.C, had organised this
one-day colloquium.
About 100 participants discussed in five sessions policies and practices
of Sustainable Development, elaborated on governance, financing and partnerships,
and had a detailed look into the fields of energy and health. The colloquium
aimed to address the imperatives for a shift in the development paradigm,
and to emphasize global responsibility towards poverty alleviation and
sustainable livelihoods.
