Foundation

Venue: Boell Forum at the People's Global Forum +
[ where is it ]
India Forum in Johannesburg -- an endeavour to bring the margins
to the centre; a celebration of the popular aspirations, artistic
expressions and intellectual efforts in India to bring together
people and ecology. The event will underline the dilemmas and contradictions
in the ecology of affluence and the environmentalism of the poor.
It sets the South by and sometimes against the North. It moves from
the global to the national to the local, from the macro to the micro,
to present a kaleidoscope of issues, movements and struggles by
people's movements, NGOs and individuals on questions of ecology.
The debate will be weaving together ecology with political economy,
democracy and social justice, uncomfortable questions and troubled
connections of environment with labour, dalits and gender.
