What will be the legacy of the World Summit on Sustainable Development? Will it be remembered as an ”historic” watershed, as we now regard the 1992 Rio Earth Summit? Will Johannesburg generate results that will be worthy of celebration, or will it lead to yet another meaningless global photo opportunity? The Memorandum is the cornerstone of the Foundations contributions to the Johannesburg Summit. Product of an unique assembly of sixteen activists, intellectuals, politicians and businesspeople from across the world, it is a comprehensive and ambitious civil society contribution to the World Summit. It has been presented and discussed in many capitals all over the world, including the last two PrepComms. The JoBurg Memo provides a critical analysis of the ten years since Rio, its merits and failures. It develops a Johannesburg Agenda for fairness in a fragile world, and presents a set of proposals for the Summit. We feature the Jo'Burg Memo at various events during the World Summit -- you are invited to join any or all of them, as each one has a special focus. In particular, we recommend the launch of the Memo on August 25 and the daily Theatre play/Debating the Memo events, all taking place at the Boell Forum. More information on the Jo'Burg Memo is available on our Jo'Burg Memo Web Special.
