Talk by Dr. David Fig on the South African nuclear weapons programme -- this talk will review the links between the nuclear energy and weapons programmes of the apartheid government,questioning the power configurations,and looking at the implications of South Africa becoming the first country to abandon its nuclear bomb programme. Can a nuclear programme ever form part of a sustainable future?

Dr David Fig has been writing on the South African nuclear programme for 25 years and was an activist in Koeberg Alert,South Africa ’s first anti- nuclear movement.He was Director of the Group For Environmental Monitoring (GEM),a Johannesburg based NGO,and currently runs a research project on Corporate Social and Environmental accountability at WITS.
