[ where is it ]
In 2000, the Heinrich-Böll-Foundation decided to make the
upcoming WSSD the centrepiece of its international work. Since then,
it has contributed to the preparatory process with a broad variety
of projects and activities. These contributions and those of its
partners all over the world now converge at the Böll-Forum,
which is part of the Global Peoples Forum, like the Heinrich-Böll-Foundation
is part of the world-wide civil society. We will feature some of
the most exciting debates of this Global Summit. Come in and have
a look at what we have brought to the Summit!
The cornerstone of the Foundations' contributions to the Johannesburg
Summit is the Jo'burg
Memo. Product of an unique assembly of 16 activists, intellectuals,
politicians and businesspeople from across the world, it is perhaps
the most comprehensive civil society contribution to this Global
Summit. It has been received with excitement at presentations in
many capitals of this planet and at the last two PrepComs. The Jo'burg
Memo provides a critical analysis of the 10 years since Rio, its
merits and failures. It develops a Johannesburg Agenda for fairness
in a fragile world, and presents a set of proposals for this Summit.
At the time of the Summit, the Jo'burg
Memo is available in many languages (English, Spanish, German,
Italian, Russian, Arabic, soon Hungarian, Indonesian and Turkish)
- further editions are in preparation. You are cordially invited
to the Grand Opening of the Böll-Forum - come and get your
free copy of the Jo'burg Memo there.
The Grand Opening of the Böll-Forum also features the theatre
play "Fair Wealth" of the Sibikwa Community Theatre project.
Inspired by the Jo'burg Memo, Sibikwa's presentation will use song,
music, narration and visual presentation to tackle the question
of the relationship between the developing countries and industrialised
countries.
