ENHANCING THE EARTHSUMMIT PROCESS IN ETHIOPIA

The regional office of HBF, in collaboration with the government, a Coalition of NGOs, individuals and scholars has initiated monthly debates on the Rio+10 process. Documentation of cultural biodiversity and the strengthening of environmental journalist’s capacity to cover the Summit are key areas of the project. The primary issues being tackled are: combating poverty through Sustainable Development, education and public awareness for Sustainable Development; status of biodiversity in Ethiopia; sustainable mountain development; water as a key resource for sustainable development, promoting sustainable agriculture and rural development; managing fragile ecosystems; and developing environmentally sound waste management.

The Ethiopian Forum for Environment has just completed its second wrap up round of civil society consultations on implementing Agenda 21. A summary of these consultations is available for download to the right.
