PEOPLES' FORUM AT THE PREPCOMM IV

Civil Society event parallel to the PrepComm IV
May 27 - June 7, Nusa Dua Bali, Indonesia

People's Forum on the web: http://jakartapeoplesforum.org

This forum was organised by the Indonesian People's Forum (IPF), a coalition of 32 civil society organisations, representing nine major groups: NGOs, women, youth, children, farmers, fishers, workers, indigenous people and urban poor. The IPF aimed to maximize civil society's participation in the preparatory processes towards the Johannesburg summit.

The People's Forum was held parallel to the PrepComm IV. The forum served as a consolidation forum for local, national, regional, and international civil society, and as a medium for national and international campaigns, to influence the outcomes of PrepComm IV. The forum was also a good occasion to its participants to share civil society's country assessments on Agenda 21 implementation, sometimes called shadow reports. The Heinrich Boell Foundation supported the presentation of these reports during the People's Forum.

The Indonesian People’s Forum, which took place ten minutes from the PrepComm IV venue served as an important venue for critical voices. A series of workshops and rallies were held in order to pressure governments. The People’s Forum was at times a brave venue for demonstrations under the observance of various Indonesian Security Forces.
