 LATIN AMERICA

Central American and Mexico in the Process to the World Summit

Civil Society

Civil Society preparations: The Heinrich Boell Foundation is supporting the Civil Society preparatory process in Central America. Activities included workshops on Rio+10 in the context of the capacity building programme, with participants coming from Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Mexico and the participation of NGO representatives in the Latin American ministerial preparatory meeting in Rio de Janeiro as well as the global PrepComms in New York and Bali -- and the summit itself. With support from the Heinrich Boell Foundation, the Central American organisations Salvadoran Ecological Unit (UNES) and the Humboldt Centre of Nicaragua are drafting a central american perspective to the world summit to be discussed on a regional forum in July 2002.

Climate and Energy after Johannesburg

Sustainable Energy

Workshop, October 2002: The Brazil office of the Heinrich Boell Foundation is already planning ahead. What impact will the outcomes of the World Summit have for politics in the field of climate and energy, internationally and in Brazil? How do the outcomes of Johannesburg translate to national strategies on meeting energy demands while preventing climate change? October 2002, just after the World Summit, will see a capacity building workshop on these issues for non-governmental organisations.
